Statutory Framework

The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 replaced the earlier 1995 Act to align Indian legislation with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). It established a rights-based model protecting 21 specified disability categories.
